We are learning.....
Kindergarten
We have now learned the letters m, p, f, c, t, s, d, l, a, o and r. We have also begun identifying the beginning and ending sounds in pictures and words. Very shortly we will be reading short three letter words. Review letter sounds with your child daily. If your child knows the letter sounds it will make the transition to reading much smoother.
Second Grade
We have just completed the second unit in our series. In our third unit we will be reading about ways to be creative. There are many interesting stories to look forward to. We will continue to work on story structure. We will also be working on drawing conclusions and answering questions using complete sentences.
Homework Tips
* Make sure your child has a quiet, well-lit place to do homework.
Avoid having your child do homework with the television on or in places with other distractions, such as people coming and going.
* Help your child with time management.
Establish a set time each day for doing homework. Don't let your child leave homework until just before bedtime.
* Be positive about homework.
Tell your child how important homework is to school performance. The attitude you express about homework will be the attitude your child acquires.
* When your child asks for help, provide guidance, not answers.
Giving answers means your child will not learn the material. Too much help teaches your child that when the going gets rough, someone will do the work for him.
* Watch your child for signs of frustration.
Let your child take a short break if she is having trouble keeping their mind on an assignment.
